Not a peep.....
Again it's the first weekend after the first full moon after the equinox. When reading this you may wonder what I have against the holiday or why I'd refer to Easter in this way. I don't have anything against it, but I guess I can't help but wonder about the way that non-religious elements are intertwined with it. You would think that this is the most important holiday on the Christian calendar, It is... but.. it's not celebrated as such. I'm not really complaining.. just observing. I do find it quite interesting that the new Mel Gibson movie has caused a lot of people to re-evaluate the reason behind the whole holiday. Sure this is a good thing but... why does it take a movie? On a somewhat related note: I don't have any desire to see "The Passion" in the theatre.. (Though it is subtitled which would allow me to enjoy it a little more than other theatre movies).... I know how it ends and I'll rent it some time.
One thing that I've noticed more so this year than the past is the incredibly huge amount of sugary treats that come with this time of year. I like a marshmallow peep as much (or more than) the next guy. (put them in your microwave :p ) Back in the day you could only get them for Easter. Now they sell them for about every holiday. I'm on Atkins this year and can't touch the stuff.. so no marshmallow chicks, jelly beans or biting the heads off of defenseless little chocolate bunnies.
When it rains, it pours, and you'll get salt in your eyes.
In addition to my job at Wimmer's I fixed a couple of computers around Beemer. I also got contacted by a head hunting place for temporary tech workers. I drove about an hour to set up a computer at a Sheriff's office a couple countys away. It only paid $35 but all I had to do was take the darn thing out of the box and make it go :). Sadly I was contacted by them again and they'd like me to work for 3 days at 3 different places near Beemer, Sadly I'd work from 9:00 to 5:00. But I'm at wimmers from 6:30 to 4:00ish. Finding a job is like finding women. As soon as you have one, more start showing up and showing interest!! Why is that?
It does make me hopeful that I will find something better soon which will allow me to leave immerse. The people there are pretty cool in the respect that they're nice friendly people. I've never worked at general labor job with people this many nice people. There was the summer where I worked at a butter place... I was helping the matainance crew while they did some renovating. The foreman swore like a sailor, not a fun guy to be around. And there was the job at the cheese factory. There the people in charge were great but the other workers were mostly white trash. (I'm going to leave out a lot of things wrong with the places I used to work.. it was a long time ago but lets say that they were less tolerable than my current job)
(In a previous post I said it was a 90 day temp thing... not exactly. I'm "contracted" to work 520 hours through the staffing agency. After that I will stay on the staffing agency or become an employee of Wimmer's, at the discression of Wimmer's management. So considering the number of hours I put in per week, The temp thing will last around 10-11 weeks. )

Up the proverbial creek sans propulsion device
It's Saturday night and I'm at home. I have TV.. I have dial-up. eh, it's my life. I could ask myself if I'm happy or content or all that garbage.. but it's all subjective.. ie better compared to what?

So, with that out of the way, it's time to tell about my new job. Yes, I passed the drug test.. (as if I had any doubts) I started last Wednesday and worked about a half day. By some bizarre miracle, we had yesterday off. Tonight there was supposed to be a yearly party. At this party was a free meal and live entertainment. However, The founder of the company, George Sr., died last Monday. Thus the family decided to cancel the party. I really didn't want to go, but now that I have nothing else to do, I sortof wish it was still going on.... sortof.
I don't like my job. I grind meat, that's what I do. It gets measured then put into these big tanks (with wheels on 'em) and then it's my job to put the tanks on the lift and into one of the 3 different grinders. Once the meat is ground it goes several places.. some times it's mixed with other ingredients, and then molded into sausage shapes, some times it's mixed then ground again. Some times it's ground then stored in the cooler so that it can be finished early the next morning. I always knew that "scrap" meat goes into hotdogs, but you have to see it to really know. Beef cheek seems to be a primary ingredient. Beef cheek is very tough and must be ground into large pieces before its ground again and mixed. In this particular grinder the beef or pork comes out in golf ball sized chunks. I also learned what a pork jowl is. Probably not something you'll see on Jeapordy. The worse it probably the 72% lean pork. This is the least-lean cut of meat I've seen thus far. It's ... it's gross.. Incredibly slimy and gross.
It's a 90 day Temp-to-hire thing. I strongly hope I can find something else by the time the 90 days are up. It's a good job, it pays alright for the cost of living here. the benefits are pretty nice. (though I won't see them for 90 days and even then it's not much of an incentive to stay) Even though I can only speak highly of the people that work there, the quality of the products and the job itself... It just does not appeal to me. I hate the smell of raw meat now, (not that I ever liked it before mind you). And don't shy away from the products if you happen to be living in the region they're availabe. It's good stuff, the meat in general is high quality, it's just too tough or fat laden to be used for steaks or stuff .. the only option is for it to be ground up and put in casing.. thus a hotdog or other sausage. If you're thinking "eww" at any point, just remember the meat isn't what you need to look out for it's the sodium nitrate you need to worry about. That stuff is bad for you.
