Google may just save your life one day. Seriously.. well it might save MY life some day. Work has been... a trial. I'm the least qualified (physilogically) to do certian things that my job requires. The problems I'm having show themselves in ways that don't point directly back to the actual problem. That's not a good thing. Though now that I think about it, all problems I have at work aren't black and white; there are layers. I can't do something, so I behave a certian way to compensate, the problem is then complicated when my "compensation" is insufficient. Over the last couple of days I've tried to identify the problem. Knowing what you're up against is the first step in resolving issues. I'm well aware of the underlying problem... and sadly there's not much I can do about it.. (and I don't expect a visit from the cochlea fairy any time soon).
Back to the Google comment: Friday afternoon at work, I was ready to leave. I had to leave a bit early because I had stayed later earlier in the week, and un-approved overtime is not allowed. Anyway, a call comes in from the outside (oh how I hate outside calls) The caller was from an office of a professional (who's in the same business as the organization I work for) and they had recieved a fax from us in error. I tried to get the name, and I should have gotten the phone number but my stupid brain had gone home allready. I did get the fax number and I did get part of the name.. Anyway, I tell one of the higher up people aboutthe issue and they say "well who was it.." etc That's when I realize I screwed up. All was not lost though behold the power of Google!! I was able to find the full name and phone number of the place and viola, I coverd my posterior. I don't want to go through that again. I'm thinking of recording phone calls in the future.. that way I can just say "can you spell that for me?" and then I can let some one else deal with it.
I've found a solution to outgoing calls. I can now call IBM with confidence. I havn't had to yet.
They had me sit out of the meeting today so I can man the phone.... I'm glad actually.. maning the phone beats the @#$^ out of taking notes at the meeting.
